Smart Pet Wearable

Project Overview

  • Addressing Dehydration in Dogs

    • Proper hydration is critical for dogs, as dehydration can lead to severe health issues, including death. Ensuring a consistent water supply based on the dog's needs is vital.

    Preventing Accidents

    • Dog-related traffic accidents often occur due to poor visibility in dark environments. Dogs are also frequently lost in low-light conditions. Enhancing visibility with reflective and illuminated gear can reduce these risks significantly.

    Environmental Relevance

    • With rising global temperatures due to climate change, the risk of dehydration for pets increases. This project aims to address these issues proactively.

  • Hydration System

    • A non-contact temperature sensor monitors the dog's body temperature.

    • When the temperature exceeds a set limit, a water pump motor automatically supplies water.

    Visibility Enhancements

    • A light sensor activates LED lights on the dog's outfit in low-light conditions.

    • Reflective gear improves visibility to prevent accidents and help locate the dog.

    Bluetooth Connectivity

    • Real-time temperature data is sent to a mobile app, allowing pet owners to monitor their dog's condition remotely.

    User-Friendly App

    • The app provides real-time temperature readings, LED status, and water supply alerts.

  • Health Benefits

    • Ensures dogs remain hydrated by automatically supplying water when needed.

    • Reduces the risk of dehydration-related health problems.

    Safety Improvements

    • LED lighting and reflective gear reduce the chances of nighttime traffic accidents.

    • Increases the likelihood of finding lost dogs in dark environments.

    Convenience for Pet Owners

    • Automates water supply and safety monitoring, reducing the need for constant supervision.

    • Provides peace of mind through app-based real-time updates.

  • Hardware

    1. Non-Contact Temperature Sensor

      • Measures the dog’s body temperature without physical contact.

    2. Water Pump Motor

      • Supplies water automatically when the dog's temperature exceeds a threshold.

    3. Light Sensor

      • Activates LED lights in low-light conditions.

    4. LED Lights

      • Ensures visibility and safety at night.

    5. Bluetooth Module

      • Facilitates communication between the hardware and the mobile app.

    6. Arduino Board

      • Processes sensor data and controls the hardware components.

    Software

    1. Arduino Sketch

      • Contains the logic for sensor data processing, Bluetooth communication, and component control.

    2. Android App

      • Displays real-time temperature data and status updates.

      • Allows pet owners to monitor their dog’s condition remotely.

  • Purpose

    • Check if the system works as intended and is comfortable for the dog.

    Steps

    • Test if the temperature sensor accurately measures the dog’s body temperature.

    • Verify that the water pump supplies water when the temperature exceeds the set level.

    • Confirm LED lights turn on in the dark.

    • Ensure real-time temperature updates appear in the app.

    • Check if the outfit is comfortable for the dog.

    Results

    • Temperature sensor worked accurately indoors and outdoors.

    • Water pump provided the right amount of water at the set temperature.

    • LED lights turned on automatically in low-light conditions.

    • The app showed real-time temperature updates.

    • The dog was comfortable with a half-filled water pouch.

    Conclusion

    • The system works well, ensuring hydration, safety, and comfort for the dog.

How It Works

Temperature Sensor, Water Pump Motor, Light Sensor, LED Lights and Bluetooth Module were connected to the Arduino.

Temperature Monitoring

  • A non-contact temperature sensor on the dog’s outfit continuously measures the dog’s body temperature.

Water Supply

  • If the dog’s temperature exceeds a set threshold (e.g., 28°C for 30 seconds), the Arduino board activates the water pump motor.

  • Water is automatically supplied from a pouch through a tube to the dog.

Light Detection

  • A light sensor detects the surrounding brightness.

  • If it gets dark, the sensor activates the LED lights attached to the dog’s outfit for visibility.

Real-Time Updates

  • Bluetooth connectivity sends temperature and system status to a mobile app in real time.

  • The app displays the dog’s current temperature and LED activation status.

Enhanced Safety

  • LED lights and reflective elements on the outfit ensure the dog is visible to others at night.
